In 1984 the first International Old Timers Ice-Hockey tournament was held for the first time in Engelberg. This is the time when it was called into life. The aim of these tournaments is to give Seniors a chance to play according to the old rules and at the same time to maintain and build-up new friend-ships. On the first tournament only four crews participated. The highlight was, that the first victory went to Sweden. On the following tournaments there were never less then 10 crews, which participated from allover the world. The quality increased with each year. One of the highlights was the participation of old Chechoslavakia with players such as:
Nedomansky, Hlinka, Holik, Suchy etc., all those players, who in 1968 challenged the great ice fights during the World-Championship against the Soviet Union. It was for our tournament an honour, to see such players in action again in Engelberg. Their names contributed to the fact that the grand stands of the Engelberg Sport Center were fully occupied and there was a super atmosphere. At that time, these matches were fully transmitted by CSSR-Television. A further highlight was the participation of the wellknown American Crew, the Philadelphia Flyers. A super team, which however forgot unfortunately the old timer rules during the play against the former cracks from the CSSR and wanted to set in scene with body action and slap shot. This gave a problem to the arbitrators.
We have had the honour to welcome many Swiss National players in Engelberg to the yearly tournaments. Briefly said, it was a true pleasure in every respect for the players as well as the spectators.
